We work precisely and pedanticly,
Some of us have hands, some have proboscis and pollen basketed legs.
Our eyes are different but beautiful.
All of us have needles and focused minds.
We like hexagons.
In summertime we want – unless we are actually programmed for it! – to hang around with our flower companions.
We have all educated each others a very long time, thus, can we even imagine our eyes, our minds, poetry or essence without flora!?
And have you heard what they say, how do they know us, how have they listened to us during all these years,
we have only got the first hints of it.
Although it does not surpise those of us who have used to floral coexistence, grown up with them.
I can’t even make a flower is a durational art-ecology event and workshop I can’t even make a flower continues the project Bee activists (2014), which was a demonstration of bodily identification with bees by hand-pollinating blooming fruit trees and looking at the city from a bee-flower-perspective.
The new project goes on with the same underlying question of human helplessness and helpfulness in the framework of ecological interactions. This June, all the willing artistic and imaginative primates may grip a needle, plant fibre threads and books at Kaisaniemi Botanic Garden to make their interpretations of flowers, accompanied by artist Kaisa Illukka.
The workshop activities will happen at 12-15 pm Tue-Sun 1.-23.6. around a honeycomb-shaped glass hut. The hut is located near to the main entrance of the botanic garden (Kaisaniemenranta 2), next to the restaurant Viola. Entrance to the outdoor garden and event is free. You may join the workshop any time between 12:00 and 15:00.
The event will consist of various theme days related with the mutualisms between plants, bees and human culture. Some of the theme days start with a short introduction at the glass hut at 12.15 pm (in English/Finnish).

Olemme tarkan työn tekijöitä,
osalla meistä on kädet, osalla imukärsät ja mesivasut.
Silmämme ovat erilaiset, mutta ihmeelliset.
Kaikilla meistä on neulat ja keskittyvät mielet.

Olemme kaikki kehittäneet toisiamme jo kauan, ja millainen olisikaan silmämme, mielemme, runoutemme tai olemuksemme ilman kukkakasveja!?
Entä oletko kuullut mitä he sanovat, miten he meidät tuntevat, miten he ovat meitä aina kuunnelleet,
tästä alamme saada vasta ensi kertaa vihjeitä.
Mutta se ei yllätä meitä, jotka olemme tottuneet toisiimme, kasvaneet yhdessä.
Taide-ekologiatapahtuma ja työpaja En osaa edes tehdä kukkaa jatkaa Mehiläisaktivistit-projektia (2014), jossa harjoiteltiin kehollista samastumista mehiläisiin pölyttämällä kukkivia hedelmäpuita ihmiskäsityönä, ja myös tarkastelemalla kaupunkia mehiläisten ja kukkien näkökulmasta.
Uudessa projektissa pohditaan edelleen samaa kysymystä ihmisen avuliaisuudesta ja avuttomuudesta ekosysteemissä; tällä kertaa taiteelliset, kekseliäät ja mielikuvituksekkaat kädelliset voivat tarttua mm. kirjontaneulaan, kasvikuituihin ja kirjaan Kaisaniemen kasvitieteellisessa puutarhassa tehdäkseen omat tulkintansa kukkakasveista.
Tapahtumaan ja työpajaan on vapaa pääsy klo 12-15 tiistaista sunnuntaihin 1.-23. kesäkuuta. Tapahtuman keskuspaikkana on kennonmuotoinen lasimaja, joka sijaitsee kasvitieteellisen puutarhan pääsisäänkäynnin (Kaisaniemenranta 2) lähellä ravintola Violan vieressä. Työpajaan voi osallistua vapaasti klo 12-15 välisenä aikana.
Tapahtumaan versoo teemapäiviä kasvien, mehiläisten ja ihmiskulttuurin suhteisiin liittyen. Osana teemapäivistä pidetään lyhyehkö alustus lasimajalla klo 12 ja 15 (osanottajien mukaan englanniksi tai suomeksi).
